Quaker Sewing Kit

Standard

A  lovely finish. A little project I’ve itched to do. A  Quaker Sewing Kit from Just Cross Stitch August 2005 by Jane Timmers of  Fancy Work. Stitched on 32ct raw linen, with DMC threads. Even my sewing machine behaved, just!…. note to self – get sewing machine serviced!

Scissor case finish

Standard

Well I have finished The Cat’s Whiskers limited edition design – ‘Love, Laugh, Survive & Thrive’ scissor case. I bought the kit before my eldest son was born. I lost my Mum to breast cancer 14 years ago this month so it is a perfect finish for March. It really is a pretty case and it’s really nice to have a safe home for my ‘Pink Snips’ scissors from Kelmscott Designs at last. The case is stitched with Dinky Dye limited edition silk thread and ribbon ‘Hope’and a specially chosen bead from Goody Beads, on 32 count Antique White Belfast linen.

I’ve had some lovely post arrive over the last couple of days. Firstly I received the Brambleberry Bunting chart, then some threads, ultra suede (I finally tracked some down) and poly pellets, then finally today a colour swatch chart for come fabric that I’m planning on using to line my next stitching project – Quaker Schoolgirl Needle Necessities by With my Needle.

Thread Catcher

Last night I dusted off my sewing machine, which has been sitting in the corner for a while as it needs to be serviced (sewing machine servicing seems to be a dying skill… but think I may have finally found someone). Thankfully it behaved so I knocked up a cute little triangular thread catcher using the tutorial at Needling Things.  I was getting fed up of tiny bits of thread while I worked (read… furry assistant finding little pile of cut ends, then think what ever a furry thinks… wow great toy, must spread this around the house!). I’m going to make a few more once I get some more fabric, they will be so useful and fold up for packing away, travelling etc.
